Jack O Lantern
Besides size and taste, what is the difference between pie (or sugar) pumpkins and jack-o-lantern pumpkins?
I know that jack- lantern pumpkins are bigger, more watery, and not as sweet, but I am wondering if there is more of a difference. Are they the same type of pumpkin, or two different varieties? Is a jack-o-lantern pumpkin simply a pie pumpkin that was allowed to grow larger? Are all smaller pumpkins considered pie pumpkins and are easy to bake with?
They are two different varieties. Jack-o-lantern pumpkins are harder & usually not as "meaty" on the inside or have less flesh. My mother also says they are less sweet. The pumpkins we use for jack-o-lanterns are usually orange & the ones my mother uses for pies are a light peach-ish/pale orange color.
