Sourdough Starter Submitted by: Esther Nelson Rating: 5 out of 5 by 11 members Yield: 15 servings "Make your headline in a glass container and store in the refrigerator after fermentation has occurred." INGREDIENTS: 1 (0.25 oz) package active dry yeast 2 cups warm water 2 cups flour all purpose INSTRUCTIONS: 1. In the non-metallic large bowl, mix the dry yeast, 2 cups water tibia, and 2 cups flour and cover loosely. 2. Leave in a warm place to ferment, 4 and 8 days. Depending on the temperature and humidity in the kitchen, the timetable can vary. Place on baking sheet in case of overflow. Check them occasionally. 3. When the mixture is bubbly and has a sour smell nice, ready to use. If the mixture has a pink, orange, or any other strange color tint to it, throw it out! and start again. Refrigerate, covered until ready to bake. 4. When using starter for baking, always replace with the same amount of flour and water mixture with a pinch of sugar. Therefore, if you remove a glass boot, substitute 1 cup water and 1 cup of flour. Mix well and leave on the counter until it bubbles again and refrigerate. If a clear light brown liquid has accumulated at the top, do not worry, this is an alcohol-based liquid that is produced through fermentation. Just stir this back into the starter, alcohol bakes off and that sour taste is still wonderful! Sourdough starters improve with age, which used to be transmitted from generation to generation! 5. Use this starter to make Sourdough Chocolate Cranberry Cake, cake and bread bitter chocolate.
